Compares the definitions on the outdoor wet-bulb temperature for cooling tower design in the different China codes and also with those in the ASHRAE handbook. Analyses the influence of outdoor wet-bulb temperature on cooling water outlet temperature. Based on the actual working condition in dry climate areas, calculates the cooling tower outlet water temperatures of typical cities in Northwest areas of China and twenty counties and cities in Xinjiang. The results show that the cooling tower outlet water temperature is in the range of 26 ℃ to 32 ℃ when the outdoor design wet-bulb temperature of cooling towers in the counties and cities of Xinjiang is controlled between 17 ℃ and 23 ℃. Points out the problems which engineers should pay attention to.
